For the Lady Pirates, Saturday nights’ game against Gulf Coast Community College was a night for redemption. When the Lady Pirates played the Lady Commadores for their first Conference game back on Jan. 11,the Lady Pirates lost by 1 in overtime 102-103. On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Lady Pirates were ready to bring their A game and did just that winning the game against the Lady Commadores 84-59.
The Lady Pirates took the lead right away and made sure that’s where they stayed throughout the entire game. Whether they lead by 2 or 25, they remained determined to stay ahead. At the beginning of the second half, Lady Pirates came back out and showed the Lady Commadores they meant business. Brandy Broome shot for a 2 pointer, missed and tipped in her own rebound. Lady Pirates were making shots back to back giving them a 25 point lead for the win. Ronika Ransford hit a 3 pointer from way back before the buzzer sounded to contribute to that 25 point lead win.
For the Lady Pirates, 7 players contributed to this win. Top scorer for the game with 22 points was Ronika Ransford who got 20 of those points in the second half. Khadijah Ellison had 13 points, Brandy Broome and Jasmine Richardson contributed 12 points each, TeAndrea Smith and Darnisha Hamilton both had 9 points each, and The Featured Player of the Week Kyana Jacobs had 8 points.
Overall the Lady Pirates are 18-2 and 4-1 in Conference, remaining #1 in State and #4 in National polls. The Lady Pirates’ next game will be against Northwest Florida State, ranked #3 in State and #5 in National polls at their home in Niceville, Fl.
