Pensacola Junior College offers a wide variety of healthy activities for college students of any age on campus. Students, faculty and staff can start with any of these options that PJC has to offer: a fully-equipped weight room; six lighted tennis courts; six lighted racquetball courts; a track; a gym; and a 25-meter, six-lane, lifeguarded pool. Most of these activities are available on campus.

The track is one of the most popular sites at the Pensacola campus for an evening walk or run, and the middle grass area is a great spot for kids to run and play while parents get their walking in. The track also has fitness equipment for pull ups or leg work outs. No need to worry about daylight; the track stays well lit at night.

“I love coming up to the track and walking with my friends,” Candacie Schrader, a PJC student, said.  “I feel safe, and I don’t have to worry about my little brother because he’s always in my sight. While I walk he plays kickball in the grass area of the track.”

Conveniently located next to the track are the six lighted tennis courts, and the tennis wall; both are popular sites in the evening as well.

“I visit the tennis courts three times a week in the evening, and there’s always an endless amount of people willing to play or give me tips about the game. It’s a fun and healthy way to stay in shape,” said Madison Gates, a former PJC nursing student.

Along with these outdoor activities, PJC also offers indoor fitness classes. PJC’s continuing education programs offer classes such as Pilates, Yoga and Yogalates which is a mixture of both yoga and Pilates. These are great classes that focus on balance and strength training.

For students who like working-out in a gym atmosphere, PJC offers a top notch fitness center with treadmills and weight training machines. To receive access to this fitness center, students must take a class called “Concepts of Life Fitness.” This class instructs students how to use the equipment safely and gives students advice about diet and nutrition, as well as information and positive advice about maintaining a healthy weight. Paul Gean, a former student of the class, said it was a great way to earn college credits, while learning how to maintain a healthy and active life.

For all you sports fans, there’s an endless amount of sporting events in which PJC students, faculty and staff can participate. These include tennis tournaments, wrestling, soccer, swimming, golf tournaments, and flag football. To find out about these activities and more, visit www.pjc.edu and click on the word “Activities.” This site gives information on all of the sports and activities for fall and spring terms.
