Unless you’re fortunate enough to have received a pass from finals, this week is going to be stressful for Pensacola State College students.

Late night cram sessions, early morning cram sessions and ‘round the clock binge studying aren’t exactly great techniques for surviving finals or getting good grades. Taking time out to relax and focus is a great way to stress less whether you’re a binge studier or you’ve prepared all semester.

Buddhist nun and PSC Psychology student, Thich Huong Lien, knows exactly how much pressure fellow students are under during this time. She also knows that anxiety is no good for finding peace and happiness.

Stress less this week and all other weeks by learning how to manage stressful times with thoughtfulness and contemplation.

Lien and members of the Dieu De Buddhist Temple invite students to learn the art of meditation and helpful breathing techniques at English friendly sessions offered from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. every Friday.

“We welcome everyone to come here and enjoy meditation,” Lien said. Pensacola’s Vietnamese Buddhists encourage community members to visit the temple to learn about Buddhism and stroll through the grounds that feature giant Buddhas and a lotus fountain.

The temple which recently celebrated 25 years in the community now has a Spirit Pagoda that houses the ashes of loved ones. The anniversary celebration included elaborate ceremonies, chanting and prayers for peace by practitioners, monks and nuns. A feast was also prepared and blessed in honor of the deceased.

Students can learn how to stress less and find happiness at 9603 Nims Lane in Pensacola.
