Throughout my months at PJC, I have been asked many questions about my blindness and other aspects of my life. Part of my goal for this blog is to answer many of those questions. I thought I would start out by telling you a little about me.
I decided to attend PJC about two years ago. At the time I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do with my life. And in many ways, I still don’t. Two years later I have chosen a field of study that I really enjoy. I have chosen to get a degree in psychology. Along with some personal reasons, I chose to go into this field after I took a general psychology course.
Another interest that I have is guide dog awareness. Since I have a guide dog of my own, I understand the importance of the awareness of guide dogs. Bristol, my guide dog, has changed my life in ways that I could have not imagined. Now that I know how he has changed my life, I’m interested in sharing my experiences with other blind people. In addition to encouraging other blind people about the benefits of guide dogs, I’m always educating people about how to approach a guide dog team.
I have many other interests as well. I am always interested in learning new things. I rarely turn down an opportunity to become more knowledgeable on a topic. For instance, since I took a philosophy class last semester, I’m now interested in learning more on the topic. I also enjoy reading books on a variety of topics. That is partially how I educate myself on a topic that I’m interested in learning more about.
A few other things I like to do for entertainment are listening to music, writing poetry, and playing with Bristol and my two other pets. In addition to listening to music, I can sing. My sister and I used to sing together all the time. My parents instilled in me a love of music that I still carry with me to this day.
Well, this gives you a general idea of who I am. I will go into more detail on many of my interests in future entries.
