With smashed cars and pies, students relieve stress during midterms

Every college student faces stress during midterm week, and there’s nothing like heaving a pie at someone’s face or smashing apart a car to help relieve that stress constructively.

On the afternoon of March 12th, Pensacola State College’s Student Government Association set up an old, neon-spray-painted car and whipped-cream pies outside the student centers of three PSC campuses.

Students could try their hand at smashing the car with a sledgehammer and baseball bat or pay $1 to give an SGA member a pie-in-the-face.

David Darago, the vice president of SGA, explained that the event was held so “students can get frustration out during midterm week.”

SGA bought three cars from Butler’s Auto Recycling, a company that buys and sells junk cars and auto parts and promotes not texting while driving.

Student Bethany McKenzie, after trying her hand at smashing the car, described that midterm week has been stressful for her with a lot of sleep deprivation.

“I think [the car] should be out here all the time. Everyone should sledge-hammer things every once in a while,” McKenzie said.

When asked how it felt to get a pie-in-the-face, whipped-cream-covered SGA member Lindsey Steck replied, “Sticky!”

Proceeds from the pie-in-the-face fundraiser will be donated to Manna Food Bank.
