The PJC women’s basketball team started the season with the goal of winning all of their non-conference games. At the end of seven games, they are 5-2. Their losses include a one-point loss to Three Rivers Community College, Conn. on Nov. 10 and a 25- point loss to Santa Fe Community College on Nov. 17.

Coach Chanda Rigby says that injuries have been a problem, including an ankle injury to All-Conference point guard Kristian Diggs. Diggs has seen limited action off the bench in the last two games. The Lady Pirates should be at full-strength after the Thanksgiving Holiday, Rigby said.

Sierra Highgate has started at the point guard position for Diggs and has played well. The freshman had 16 points against Santa Fe and was named to the Lady Pirates Classic All-Tournament Team. Freshman Nikel White, who had 10 points and 11 rebounds against Santa Fe, was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Brittanie Alston, one of the team’s returning sophomores, has been a leader off the bench. Alston had 16 points against Georgia Perimeter College, who PJC defeated 67-55 on Nov. 9. Alston also had 14 points in PJC’s Nov. 16 win over Andrew College.

Except for a 32-point performance against Three Rivers, sophomore All-Conference shooting guard Victoria Hunt, who is known for her prolific offensive capability, has been quiet through most of the early season.

PJC will travel to Niceville to play in the Okaloosa Walton Lady Raider Classic Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
