Lady Pirate April Snow, a 6-foot-1 post player for the women’s basketball team, is inspired by her sister, Michelle Snow, to follow in her footsteps and become a WNBA player. Michelle is a 6-foot-5 center for the Houston Comets. She was drafted to the WNBA from the University of Tennessee.

“Michelle is my role model,” April said.

“My goals are to make it to the WNBA,” she continued. “I hope to one day play against Michelle.”

Both sisters are alumni of Pensacola High School. When Michelle played there,

April, at the age of 10, decided she wanted to play basketball too.

“I wanted to be like my sister,” April said.

As a sister of a WNBA player April said it really doesn’t have much of an effect on her relationship with Michelle.

“Yeah, she might be a WNBA player, but that doesn’t make her any different to me. She is still my sister,” she said.

However, being the sister of a basketball superstar does have its challenges. April says that people do have higher expectations of her just because she is Michelle’s sister.

“There is a little external pressure on me,” she said. “It can be stressful, but it will make me stronger in the long run.”

Rosalyn Snow, another sister, says April does get compared a lot to Michelle. She says she is proud of both of them.

“They act just alike in some ways; they are both goofy and love to have fun,” Rosalyn said. “They are different through their sibling roles. April is the baby of the family.  We all look out for her. Michelle on the other hand is the oldest, so we all look up to her as a mother figure.”

“April is just cool and collected, and Michelle is more dynamic,” Rosalyn said.

April plans on attending a Division I college after she graduates from PJC, where she hopes she will be scouted into the WNBA draft. For now, she is content with staying home and training at PJC until she’s ready to transfer to a four-year college or university.

“Whatever happens, happens,” April said.

Although April may not know exactly where her future will take her, she does know that she has the assurance of her close sister, Michelle.

“Michelle supports me in everything I do,” Snow said.
