Dressing for a night out is nothing like it used to be. The ever-changing rules that dictate fashion trends could easily leave you passed-out on your bedroom floor with a spinning headache and nothing to wear.

So, after hours of careful research and countless sleepless nights spent hunched over every fashion rag Barnes & Noble had to offer, here are my top five picks for all you males and females

needing help in answering that age old question: “What should I wear tonight?”

 Number one: Real fur.

Yes, I said it. Real fur, not fake. And no, I’m not going to apologize to all you vermin-hugging  reactionaries.

As for all of the fake designer handbags, fake tans, and fake fur that are deadly fashion atrocities I see being blatantly perpetrated  in the halls of our fine school,  I’m calling you out on them.

Get real.

Fur is natures gift of warmth to mankind, so embrace it with open, well-moisturized arms.

Wear it tailored, any length, jacket, shrug, or vest. Pair it with a cashmere turtle neck or silk blouse and jeans.

Think when shopping for fur, “What would Sienna Miller do?”

Second must-have is the chunky knit sweater dress.

This look is so classic, versatile, and easy to wear for any body type. It wraps your whole torso up in luxurious hand-knit warmth.

You have to love it when you can look sexy and still be comfortable, no dangling straps or circulation-restricting seams here.

Wear it fitted, mid-thigh length, turtle neck, in rich autumn shades.  Pair it with knee-high leather or suede boots.

Think when shopping, “What would Brigitte Bardot do?”

Next in line: the voluminous skirt

This season’s skirt speaks volumes, literally, about fashion’s latest embellishments.

It’s party perfect in glamorous fabrics like satin and velvet and fabulously feminine with intricate beading and bows.

Wear it knee-length, brocade or printed, with a metallic camisole and soft cardigan.

Think when shopping, “What would Mary-Kate do?”

Our fourth fashion fundamental is the round toe.

Finally, the powers that be have decreed us to give up our pointy toed stilettos. The sweet rounded toe is back and hotter than eva-eva. It’s showing up every where- from boots to ballet flats.

Wear it any way you can find it, from a chic cheetah print calf-skin to a funky green suede. Pair it with that cute full skirt you just brought.

Lastly, we ladies must have the gold sequined handbag.

This dazzling little number will bring new life to any drab winter evening, and with its shine. You are guaranteed to attract every eye in the room that you’ve blessed with your presence.

Don’t wear it too big because you don’t want to over do it, any thing from a clutch to a satchel.

When shopping think, “What would Lindsay Lohan do?”

As for the gentlemen, I’ll keep your list short and sweet.

Number one: The Leather Bomber. Fitted, and full of attitude. Think James Dean.

Next: The tight turtle neck, slim and trim, very modern.

Thirdly, the low rise slacks. High fashion goes low when it comes to jeans and pants this fall.  Be sure you keep it tailored to perfection.

Fourth: Distressed shoes. Beat-up and rugged leather lace-ups will work well with all your fall picks.

Lastly, the chunky scarf. Whether you wear it over a military-style jacket or paired with a button-down dress shirt, this ‘successory’ will keep you bundled up straight to the throat with warmth, and style, this fall.

Your champions are Diego Luna, David Beckham, and Hedi Slimane of Dior Homme.

Now, if you mere mortals don’t mind, I need to catch up on my beauty sleep.

Baboosh!
