“It was a tale of two halves,” said Pensacola State College Basketball Coach Pete Pena after his pirates put away the Gulf Coast State College Commodores on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Lou Ross Center.

The pirates went into Wednesday’s game with an 18-10 overall season record and a 4-6 conference record.

PSC guard Denzel Richardson put up two 3-pointers early in the game and gave the pirates a seven point lead.

Not far behind, the commodores came back and put up six points with two steals from the pirates.

PSC took the lead, 36-24, at the half.

In the second half, GCSC came out putting up a twelve-point lead while the home crowd yelled at the referees for not doing their job.

Not long after, PSC caught up and with six minutes left in the game Devin Wilson sank a 3-pointer to make the score 57-51.

The score went back and forth down to the last seconds of the game.

With 4.3 seconds to go PSC’s Richardson stole the ball, sprinted down the court, and slam dunked the last two points that won PSC the game, 68-66.

“On the other side of the court we preformed great defense and allowed ourselves to take those stands, resulting in a win,” Pena shared after the game, “I have to give these kids credit for the immense amount of work they did.”

The pirates play their last home game of the season Saturday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m.
