Mac Miller released his fourth studio album, The Divine Feminine, on September 16th, 2016. After the success of his third album, GO:OD AM, he announced that he was back at the studio working on another project.
With guest vocals from Ariana Grande, Anderson Paak, Bilal, CeeLo Green, Ty Dolla $ign, Kendrick Lamar and Njomza, he manages to keep his longtime fans happy while branching out into the mainstream. This album is on a totally different wavelength from his others; he raps freely about love as opposed to his prior works which deal with darker themes such as not knowing himself and problems in his life such as drug and alcohol abuse.
The first single, Dang!, featuring Anderson Paak, deals with wanting their love back and what they’ll do to win their hearts again. With Soulmate, he opens up about his love, how special she is to him and that she showed him what divine love truly is.
It’s clear to any major Mac Miller fan that his alter ego Larry Lovestein is gracing us with his presence once again after his You EP and he is speaking about not only romantic love, but his experiences with the women in his life and what he learned from them..
In the closing track, God Is Fair, Sexy Nasty his grandmother is featured in the last three minutes of the song speaking about her life with her husband and the love they shared with one another. To anyone else, this is just another rap album about sex, but to true Mac Miller fans, this album is his way of expressing how women should be treated and how love should be.
