The Lady Pirates continue their winning ways with a 30-point win over Malcolm X College, Chicago in the first round of the NJCAA Women’s National Basketball Championship. Pensacola won 80-50. The win was the first national tournament win for the school’s women’s basketball program.
Two players had double-doubles – Jessica Merritt was high point getter with 15 and 11 rebounds and Karneshia Garrett scored 11 points and 10 rebounds. Meghan Perkins added 13 points and 9 rebounds. Brandy Broome added 10 points.
The team capitalized on turnovers, scoring 42 points including 16 steals.
The Lady Pirates have a day off Wednesday and play Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Miss. at 6 p.m. Thursday.
