The Daily Grind has made its return to the scene in Pensacola. Owner Jay Marsh reopened the local caf‚ on the site of the old Goofy Golf course on Navy Boulevard after the old Daily Grind building was destroyed by a combination of a massive fire and flooding from Hurricane Ivan.
“The new [Daily] Grind is a lot better, no kids or Navy folk, and the sound system is a lot better since the old [Daily] Grind didn’t have one, said Logan McEwen, a local musician who has played shows at the old Daily Grind with a few local bands.
The new Daily Grind definitely has many advantages over the old site. The new building is in a better location and is a lot more spacious. The added space allows for the return of many of the Daily Grind’s well-known activities, as well as room for a few new ones.
As before, patrons just grab a drink at the front counter and lounge with friends in the various couches and chairs. The menu is filled with a variety of different drinks such as coffees, teas, and Jones soda. There’s also a nicely sized stage where local and regional bands can come and play.
“The new place is so much better than the one before. Now you can actually be in the same room as the band and hear them really well,” said Mark Lane, a local University of West Florida student and Daily Grind customer.
Visitors may now also play pool on one of the two pool tables for $3.50 per person per hour. WiFi is also available for customers to surf the web and compete in Internet gaming for $4 per hour, or 10 hours for $30.
“I also plan on fixing and reopening the goofy golf course and the batting cages very soon,” said Marsh.
The Daily Grind’s new address is 3924 Navy Blvd., Pensacola, Fla. 32507. Hours are Sunday through Thursday from 5 to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
