September 21st was a day of community, competition, and fun for PSC and various other organizations as the YMCA’s 28th annual Corporate Cup Games went off with a big hit. The games are the YMCA’s way of giving the community a unique experience while also prioritizing wellness and fun. Since 1994, they’ve been hosting these events for the community and it’s different to participate in. This year, PSC might not have won first place, but it was still a great way to get out there and be involved in the community. Even though tensions are high, and competition can be fierce, companies are still able to participate in a collection of fitness challenges full of fun and high spirits.
The 2024 Corporate Cup Games had a variety of activities that built camaraderie between the teams and their members, but only one company was able to bring home the 1st place title in each division. This year’s large company winner was the Navy Federal Admirals who won with an overall score of 92 points. Second place was Ascension Sacred Heart with 87 points, and finally Florida Power & Light in 3rd place with 78 points. In the small company division, Institute for Human & Machine Cognition (IHMC) was in first place with 87 points, Florida Blue was second with 84 points, and finally third place was Medical Licensure Group had 79 points. Despite not winning the Oscar Brock trophy, PSC was rewarded with the Spirit of the Games Award. This was given to the team who showed great sportsmanship and fairness throughout the event.
The variety of events all required a sense of teamwork and physical activity. The day started off with the one mile run and ended off with a fierce game of tug of war. Throughout the event, there were other exciting activities and competitions like an obstacle course, ‘eggsecutive’ toss, and dodge ball. Each activity was designed to prioritize teamwork, fitness, and fun. And this year, the goal was met with flying colors. Not only did everyone have fun, but the proceeds went to various missions that come from the YMCA. The games are a fun day for businesses in the community, but there is also a philanthropic aspect that gets fulfilled as well.
Ultimately, this year’s annual Corporate Cup games were a success. Not only was the competition fierce, but people had fun. For the YMCA, that’s all that matters. Everybody is equal and in the same boat, fighting to win a trophy. But the important thing to remember is the memories of teamwork, partnership, and fun were the true rewards. “We love hearing from participating companies about how this event changes the way their people work together for the better,” said Andrea Rosenbaum, who is the Director of Advancement at the Y. “Everyone gets dirty, everyone sweats, everyone cheers. That kind of experience can break down barriers when you return to the workplace, because we start seeing each other as real people. When that happens, it’s a huge win for the YMCA team.”
