The Corsair’s Cabin
Come hang out in The Corsair’s Cabin. From Pensacola State College’s student-run newspaper, The Corsair, we’re bringing you the stories, interviews, and student voices you actually want to hear. Our inaugural episode is waiting for you. Check out our YouTube channel to keep up with all of our latest episodes.
Our first guest is Aubrey Nielsen Bures, whose story reflects the experiences of many students at Pensacola State College. Aubrey is a single mother who works full time at GE while pursuing a degree in Advanced Manufacturing. To make it all work, she takes night classes and works split shifts, all in an attempt to balance her education, career, and responsibilities to her family.
For Aubrey, earning this degree represents much more than completing a college program. It could open the door to a promotion at GE, greater financial stability (which she has mentioned to me), and life-changing opportunities for both her and her family. Her story is one of determination, sacrifice, and the powerful impact that education can have on a student’s future.

P-HOP Reading Group
Dr. Alexander Crist and Dr. Tom Barber run the Pensacola History of Philosophy Reading Group (P-HOP), which meets three times over the course of a semester to read and discuss foundational texts in the history of philosophy. The spirit of the reading group is very much conversational, and we allow the discussion to go wherever it goes! This fall, we will read and discuss Friedrich Nietzsche’s On the Genealogy of Morality. While we recommend that participants read or have some familiarity with the text before showing up to each meeting, it is not required to join us and participate in a rich and thought-provoking discussion! Dates and reading schedule for the Fall Semester are still TBD. However, they typically fall on Fridays at 10 AM at the downtown Pensacola library (off Spring St.). For more information, please contact us at phopreadinggroup@gmail.com.

We also participate in campus events, community outreach, volunteer opportunities, and social activities while advocating for and supporting PSC’s veteran community.
