On Saturday, April 5, Pensacola State College English professor, Mike Will, organized a beach clean-up for his Composition II students’ semester projects. One aspect of the project is to help the community in a way that relates to the topics they chose at the beginning of the semester. With a team of students ready to help the environment, the goal was to pick up as much trash around Park West on Pensacola Beach as possible.
As students showed up to help their community, they split into two groups and wandered the gulf and sound side looking for forgotten trash. Candy wrappers, old fishing lures, bottle caps, and plastic silverware filled the trash bags as they were picked up off the beaches. The clean-up was a success not only for the students involved but also a relief for the beaches and wildlife that resides there.
