Why you should see this movie: You should see Fear and Loathing because it’s awesome; but beyond that, Fear and Loathing has an amazing cast (Johnny Depp, Gary Busey, Benicio Del Toro, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers fame, etc). It’s basically the ultimate drug movie, as well; it involves a suitcase full of nearly every drug imaginable (including one Hunter S. Thompson made up) and more alcohol than anyone ever needs.

Brief history: The film is based on the novel by the late (great) Hunter S. Thompson.

Abbreviated Plot: The film, like the book, details a trip Thompson and his “huge Samoan lawyer” (who is based on Thompson’s friend Oscar Z. Acosta) took across the western United States in search of the “American Dream”, accompanied by a suitcase full of drugs and alcohol, as well as Thompson’s red convertible “The Red Shark.”

Why you should watch this movie: In two words?  Stanley Kubrick.  Kubrick is inherently awesome and directed the film, therefore making it awesome.  Also, Peter Sellers plays THREE, yes three different people.  And Peter Sellers is really awesome, too.

Brief history: The film came out in 1964, only three years after the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Bay of Pigs and deals with a bomb crisis.

Abbreviated Plot: U.S. Air Force General Jack Ripper goes absolutely crazy and is determined to bomb the U.S.S.R. because the communists there are trying to pollute the “precious bodily fluids” of the American population; unfortunately, according to the Russian ambassador, if he does so, a “Doomsday Machine” will be triggered that will destroy the world.  A great deal of bizarre comedy follows, and it’s absolutely brilliant.

Why you should see this movie:  This fantastic science fiction movie is the very definition of what a cult classic movie is all about: fun costumes, outrageous re-enactments, and of course, awesome songs to sing along to.

Brief History:  The stage hit was quickly made into a movie classic which debuted in the mid-1970s and though funny, reflects the strange ideas of sexual morality during that era.

Abbreviated Plot:  A well behaved couple of the do-gooder status land themselves at a strange castle-like mansion due to car trouble.  They soon become trapped in what can only be described as the most bizarre and twisted night of their lives with crazy sex- crazed beings, a mad scientist and catchy sing-a-longs.

Why you should see this movie:  This Monty Python masterpiece sets itself apart from all other Monty Python material.  It leaves fans quoting scenes from the movie for hours after the movie has finished.  It is handy to know lines from this movie because it is a good conversational topic.  You need only say one line and the next person will carry it on.

Brief History:  It was released in 1975 from the British comedy group.  This movie, as well as their others, has slowly gained success among selective audiences in America over the last few decades.

Abbreviated Plot:  King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable, after God himself commands it, go on a quest for the Holy Grail.  Along the way they are faced with setbacks of the most bewildering kind such as debates about coconuts, funny Frenchmen, and a very vicious bunny.

Why you should see this movie:  Well, besides the fact that The Ramones kick ass, this movie that takes place at a school, is somewhat reminiscent of “Grease” with its musical teenage saga of a student body searching for their freedom through music.

Brief History:  The movie was released in 1979 during the heyday of early punk rock, only three years after The Ramones had released their first album.

Abbreviated Plot:  At a high school, students have been banned from listening to rock and roll.  One girl, Riff, who loves The Ramones and has even written a song for them, is determined to break the almost fascist like ruling of a principal bent on preventing any form of rock and roll music.

Why you should see this movie: An oldie but goodie!  An original idea, with a ‘stupid-funny’ twist that is hilarious for every generation.

Brief History: The film released in 1978 and was directed by John De Bello.  After the making of this movie and seeing the success it gained De Bello directed three sequels.

Abbreviated Plot:  A twisted doctor turns tomatoes into animate creatures and makes the tomatoes turn against humans and try to eat them.  An elite group of people work together to find the tomatoes weaknesses before they take over the world!
