Some Brief Highlights of Pokémon Day 2025

By Madison Moench

With Pokémon Day 2025 coming and going so quickly, it can be hard to gather time to watch the direct in full. So, here’s a brief rundown of all the highlights.

Taking place in the modern day rather than the past like the previous game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A has the player return to the region of Kalos after the events of X and Y. Unlike all the previous Pokémon titles, the battle system in Z-A is fully in real time with ranged attacks. Although the previous Legends title had a battle system like this, the system here does not convert into turn-based battles if you are using Pokémon. This means that you can now dodge attacks using your Pokémon.

Coming up after all that Z-A news is an announcement for a new game titled Pokémon Championship which will be released on the Nintendo Switch as well as mobile phones. The game itself appears to be a battle simulation using different mechanics from previous generations such as Mega Evolution and Terastallization.

Even though it may be a surprise announcement to most, the stop-motion Netflix series Pokémon Concierge is currently in development for a second season.

Running up the Netflix show announcement is word on some Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid Battles all featuring red, green, and blue Pokémon as a nod to the very first Pokémon games.

After that, Pokémon Trading Card Pocket will be receiving a new booster pack titled Triumphant Light which has already been released on the 28th of February. Keeping in tune with the Trading Card Game, Mega Evolution seems to be making a return to the main card game.

To end the highlight’s summary of the direct, the new season of Pokémon Go has already started on the 4th of March and will last till the 3rd of June. With this new season it appears that the Pokémon Kubfu and its evolution, Urshifu, will be available.
