School work, jobs, and personal matters that feel like more work–the load we get as students, plus the extras of life, make it easy for stress and burnout to set on us. And when that happens, our performance in school and sometimes even our personal lives can suffer. To ease some stress or lighten the burden, the college has programs and resources to help PSC students.
To start, Pirates CARE is a program that every PSC student should be aware of. The college has a Pirates CARE Resource Center, located in Room 210 of Building 5, that provides free resources to students, including food pantries, career clothing, and emergency aid, and the center can also connect students in need of basic needs support to local resources. Mental health counseling services are also available to students in the center. This program is implemented to help with the issues that hinder students from excelling and achieving personal and academic success and is filled with staff members who are always ready to hear you out and help. So, if you need assistance, whether you need some professional-looking clothes for that important interview, or you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed, the Pirates Cares staff are on standby and ready to help.
Other perks that could help your budget, and make you feel and look clean, are the salon services offered by the students of our Cosmetology department. These are low-cost appointments that start at $6 and are available to all PSC students from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, Mondays to Thursdays. The salon services are available at the Milton and Pensacola campuses. Milton provides basic hair services, facials, and manicures, while the Pensacola campus offers full services on hair services, barbering, massage, facials, waxing services, and nail services.
Similarly, the Dentistry department at Warrington Campus offers basic dental services at a low cost. Prospective patients for these services are subject to screening. The screening is to ensure that the patient’s oral health needs qualify the needs and skills of the student hygienists that will be assigned. Screenings for the fall semester are held at the Warrington Clinic, Room 3102 of building 3100, on Tuesdays and Thursdays and require scheduled appointments.
Lastly, for students who want to unwind and relax with fellow students, the Student’s Room located in Building 5 is the place to go. The room is designed for recreation and has arcade games, ping-pong tables, pool tables, and two newly added PS5 consoles. It is the perfect place to hang out while waiting for the next class or to de-stress after class.
All these things can certainly help to ease the stress of college life. With these resources, things can be easier to manage, because you have an outlet that does not add pressure to your life. They release the burdens that work, school, and other things might put upon you. Remember, the best thing that you can do for youself is to take a break every once in a while.
