The PJC softball team swept Meridian Community College yesterday afternoon, winning both games of a double header by a combined score of 31-1. (game one 13-1, and game two 18-0.) Pitcher, Julianne Beaugh collected the win in the first game, moving her record to 4-0 as a starter. Grealdine Puertas led the offensive attack going 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, 3 RBI’s, and 2 runs scored, while her teammate Sofia Pimintel kept pace going 1 for 1 with a home run of her own, 2 RBI’s, 2 runs, and 2 BB’s.
The pirates carried their good approach at the plate and solid pitching over to the second game of the series. Pitcher, Tyler Easterling took her first win of the season for the pirates , throwing four innings of shutout softball. The offense kept plenty of distance between them and their opponents in this game, which ended in five innings due to the mercy rule. Chelsea Takacs had a big day, going 3 for 4 with a HR, 2 RBI’s, and 3 runs scored. Krystan Mahowald followed up with an RBI triple and two runs scored.
“We were able to put runs on the board every inning, and our pitchers had solid performances, only giving up one run in two games. Any time those things happen, your team is at a great advantage.” Coach Pena noted. When asked about the high level of offensive output, Pena attributed it to the fact that, “Nobody was pulling off the ball tonight. Even the homeruns we hit (three on the day) were driven into the left and right center gaps. That kind of approach really keeps your timing on point as a hitter.”
The pirates will face LSU Unice at home in another double header on Friday, the 15th. Come on out to Milton and support your Pirate Softball Team.
