The PJC women’s basketball team improved its record to 4-0 today as the Lady Pirates defeated Georgia Perimeter College, a team that made the NJCAA National Tournament last season, by a score of 67-55.
PJC trailed early and had a one-point deficit to overcome at halftime. The spark they needed was provided by bench players Brittanie Alston and Kenyatta Gill. Alston, a sophomore guard, started the second half by hitting two threes. She shot 7-8 from the field and finished with 16 points. Gill, a freshman center had a double double, with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Head coach Chanda Rigby said her team took a step back from their previous game and didn’t play with enough intensity.
All-conference point guard Kristian Diggs did see limited action, after being sidelined with an ankle sprain in the preseason.
This was the first of two games for PJC in the Chipola Alzheimer’s Classic. PJC will play Three Rivers Community College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
