Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim have a truly twisted view of the world. As twisted as their vantage point may be they relay a sincerity that is missed in most forms of television, in most forms of comedy. They lampoon everything from public access shows to infomercials to our celebrity obsessed culture. Their television shows Tom Goes To The Mayor, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, and Brule’s Rules are risque to say the least. These programs combine elements of society and entertainment that are so awkward you never even had names for them, combining surreal horror, absurd comedy, and dramatic montage. Tim and Eric are truly masters of mood, adding the most subtle elements to their performances to make it all fit together, even if the finished product makes you slightly uncomfortable. Their unique brand of comedy isn’t for everyone. You love them or you hate them. Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! ended several year ago after a very successful run, they even took the show on the road with several national live tours. So naturally there has been a void in my life where these two used to live and dream, they truly feel like people I have known for a very long time.
I was elated to learn that they had been working on a full length film, and in their truly non-sequitor fashion, they released it online January 27th and it goes to the box office on March 2nd. This last Sunday I bought the movie for $9.99 on youtube and sat back to enjoy what I knew was going to make me LAUGH OUT LOUD! As anyone who keeps up with my section knows, I am in love with new forms of digital distribution that put the consumer before the middle man, so I just screamed “TAKE MY MONEY!”. The plot follows Tim and Eric who have been given one billion dollars to make a film for the Shlaaang Corporation. In their typical way, they blow it and are forced to renovate a strip mall in order to pay back their now angry benefactors. I don’t want to ruin anything, but there are twists and turns.
They come along with their lovable pack of actors: Will Ferrel, Zach Galifinackis, Jeff Goldblum, David Liebe Hart, John C. Riley, and Will Forte. Not to mention their pack of stock actors from previous shows. All those awkward and lovable folks come back to haunt us. So head on down to the S’wallow Valley Mall and check out TAE$DM. Watch out for the wolf though!
