The Pensacola State College baseball team took on the Delgado Dolphins from Louisiana last weekend, March 1- 3.

They went into the games with a 10-9-1 record, they played a total of four games in three days, and they lost all four games.

Friday afternoon’s game started off with PSC’s Brett Casteel scoring after he stole second and third base on teammate Taylor Eads’ first base hit.

The score remained tied until the top of fourth inning when PSC’s head coach, Keith Little, called for  replacement pitcher Conner Fiasco after Del Gado scored three more runs, going up 4-1.

PSC failed to score in the bottom of the fourth.

The same route ran its course in the top of the fifth inning: Delgado scored three more runs and PSC changed out their pitcher, Jake Hansen, who pitched only one inning before Will Gerdes replaced him.

PSC did not score again until the bottom of the seventh inning ending the game with a 7-2 loss.

Delgado swept the double header on Saturday, March 2.

The Dolphins scored first in the top of the first inning, but PSC responded in the bottom of the second and scored three consecutive innings, taking the lead 4-2.

DCC blew past PSC with five runs in the fifth inning with five different hitters.

Buck Marell, a PSC sophomore who pitched the first five innings, was pulled from the game and replaced with teammate Cristiannel Cosme. He struck out the first three DCC hitters.

The Pirates were scoreless in the last two innings and suffered another loss to the Dolphins, 9-4.

The second game on Saturday followed suit and the pirates lost again, 10-0.

PSC lost their fourth consecutive game to the Delgado Dolphins on Sunday, March 3.

Despite the chilly weather, PSC opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning but then allowed DCC to respond in the top of the second inning, taking the lead 2-1.

By the seventh inning the game was tied, 3-3.

PSC’s left-handed pitcher, Hansen, threw two outs; but, a strike to right field enabled Delgado to pick up a runner on third who ran home when his teammate hit a RBI.

The Dolphins took the lead 4-3.

At the bottom of the seventh, freshman Hayden Kelly was the only at-bat to strike the ball while his teammates went out with two pop-flies and one strike out.

Delgado took the win, 4-3.

The Pirates will play at Faulkner State Community College Wednesday, March, 6 and will return home Thursday, March, 7 to battle Alabama Southern Community College at 4 p.m.
