The PJC women’s basketball team lost to undefeated Gulf Coast Community College 75-42 Saturday night. PJC managed to hold Gulf Coast to just 23 points in the first half but they themselves scored just 16 points. Eventually, the inability to score proved to be the downfall of the Pirates.

Gulf Coast exploded in the second half from the perimeter as they hit more 3-point field goals than 2-point field goals. Gulf Coast had 15 3-pointers in the game.

The offensive charge was led by forward Jackie Sanders who has the ability to not only score in the post but light up the perimeter. After Gulf Coast went on a 13-0 run, Sanders made four consecutive 3-pointers to put the game out of reach.

Sanders finished with 17 points and guard Janae Stokes finished with 22 points (20 in the second half).

Angelese Hunter scored nearly half of PJC’s point total as she finished with 18 points and was 8-9 from the field.

PJC falls to 4-6 in the conference and will play at Chipola on Tuesday night.
