The Pirates improved to an overall record of 21-5 and 5-3 in Conference on Wednesday night, Feb.8 with a 60-56 victory over Tallahassee Community College. The starting line up for the Pirates was #5 Antione Myers, #12 Jeff Mullahey, #15 David Alexander, #32 Darren Goodson, and #33 Tyree Smith. The starters for the Eagles were #3 Christian Framer, #12 Tramain Parker, # 14 Leek Leek, #23 Joell Hopkins, and #24 Kody Williams.
The Pirates took the lead right away but the Eagles managed to tie it up 18-18 with 8:43 on the clock. Both Myers and Goodson contributed 10 points a piece so the Eagles couldn’t pull ahead leaving the score 33-30 at half-time. For TCC, Joell Hopkins and Marterrace Brock contributed 9 points a piece.
In the second half of the game, the Pirates came out with a vengence to win. Darren Goodson scored eight straight points in a four minute stretch of the second half. The Pirates were down by 9 with 5:34 to go but captured the victory on the strength of a 15-2 run to finish the game.
Another top scorer for the Pirates was Antione “Fresh” Myers with 16 points. Top scorers for the Eagles were Joell Hopkins with 15 points, Marterrace Brock with 11 points, Curtis Diamond with 10 points, and Christain Framer with 8 points.
The Prates are ranked #2 in State and #8 in National Poll Rankings. Wednesday, Feb.15 they will be in Panama City to play against Gulf Coast Community College for a third time. Their next home game will be Saturday, Feb.18 against Northwest Florida with tip off following the Lady Pirates’ game. Half-time entertainment will be provide by the Pensacola State SGA and Corsair staff which will include a Mardi Gras Theme of events.
